Person-centred counselling for adults and teenagers

Somewhere to be honest, at your own pace.

I offer person-centred counselling online and from a quiet room in Chester, for adults, young adults and teenagers. The work is warm but not vague — I'll meet you properly rather than nod along.

About me

The heart of it is helping people feel safe enough to be themselves, and then doing the work that becomes possible once that's true.

I'm not a nod-and-smile counsellor. I'll be engaged and honest with you, while going at whatever pace you need — those two things aren't in conflict, though people often expect them to be.

I keep my caseload deliberately small. It means I have room to think about you between sessions rather than moving straight on to the next person.

How I work

Person-centred at the core, with practical work when that's what's actually needed.

  • Trust before depth

The real work starts once you're not managing how you come across. I don't rush the early sessions to get there faster.

  • Underneath the presenting problem

Often what brings someone in isn't quite what's going on. We'll follow it wherever it actually leads.

  • Practical when it helps

Sometimes you need something to do on Tuesday, not an insight. I'll offer that when it's useful rather than on principle.

What people come with

A broad range, with particular care around anxiety, self-worth, and the patterns people can't seem to break on their own.

  • Anxiety and panic
  • Low mood
  • Self-esteem
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Grief and loss
  • Work stress and burnout
  • Loneliness
  • Life transitions
  • Teenage years
  • Feeling stuck

The practical bits

The things people email to ask, answered before you have to.

Start with a conversation

Thirty minutes, free, and nothing decided at the end of it. If I'm not the right person for what you're carrying, I'll say so and point you somewhere better.
